How is the area

Buergenstock resort can easily be reached by plane, train, funicular and boat. There are many flight from all the major cities in the world to Zurich. From Zurich airport simply catch the train to Lucerne. There are trains every half an hour towards Lucerne.
From Lucerne, there are three ways to get to the resort. The pricy one is to get a taxi straight to the resort. A cheaper way is to catch a train to Stansstad and take the bus from there to Buergenstock. The more enjoyable way to reach Buergenstock resort is by shuttle boat and funicular.

If you are looking for an authentic swiss rustic experience, then you should book a room at the Taverne 1879. If you want to have a swiss chalet all to yourself, then book the Blockhaus residence. Be aware that the Waldhotel and Taverne 1879 have an amazing view of the surroundings but they do not have a lake view.

There are many walking and hiking routes for the nature lovers at the Buergenstock resort. All of them can be done wearing your regular sneakers. The Felsenweg, which is a route going around the Buergenstock hill is pretty spectacular. In the middle of it, you can find the Hammetschwand Lift which can take you to the peak where you can find you Hammetschwand mountain restaurant . At 1’132 metres, Hammetschwand lift is the highest outdoor lift in Europe.

I recommend a hike starting at the Buergenstock Hotel towards Villa Honegg and through the forest towards the Hammetschwand peak. This route is extremely beautiful and takes about 50 Minutes to get to the top of Hammetschwand peak and another 45 minutes down towards Ennetbuergen to get back to the Buergenstock hotel.

The Lakeview bar and lounge with its floor to ceiling panoramic windows is my favourite place to be at the Buergenstock resort. This is where I enjoyed an exquisite afternoon tea and had a couple of very delicious cocktails.

What to see

There are a few permanent exhibitions at the Buergentock resort. One is at the enterence of the Alpine spa (gallery), showing the history and some of the plasterings, furniture, etc. that was used at the old Buergenstock hotel. Inside the historical weather station opposite the Sharq oriental restaurant, there is an exhibition about the changes which took place in Buergenstock resort over time.

The one exhibition that I enjoyed the most was the one that starts at the Buergenstock hotel at the right side of the reception towards Palace Hotel all along the corridor which connects the two hotels. It shows the history of Buergenstock. There are informations about the pioneers who built the resort at 1873, the celebrities that has resided there, the changes that took place and much more.

Good to know

It takes a few days to visit all the buildings, exhibitions, spas, cinema, indoor and outdoor activities, etc. If somehow you want to see more of the area, just catch the resorts funicular down the hill to Kehrsiten and take the shuttle boat to Lucerne, the city of lights. In an half an hour you will be in a different setting with lots of shops, restaurants, museums and much more.
