Amsterdam is one of those cities you fall in love with,the moment you arrive. It’s very charming, beautiful and full of suprises. If you want to visit museums or shopping or eating fantasticaly or partying the whole night, Amsterdam is the place to be.

How is the area

Amsterdam can be reached by varoius European and International airlines very easily.
In order to get to the center of the town, you can either catch a taxi to your hotel (easiest way) or a train to the central train station and then catch a tram to you hotel. The town center is where you can find all the sightseeing sights and the beautiful canals.

Where to stay

I stayed in a very charming hotel called NH Collection Doelen right in the heart of the city center.

This hotel is one of Amsterdam’s oldest and finest hotels, dating from the Golden Age. Over three centuries, it has hosted royal and legendary guests including Empress Elisabeth of Austria and the Beatles. Rembrandt’s ‘Night Watch’ was painted to display within its walls.

What to do

The best way to get a picture of what is where in the town center, is to take a boat ride. Going through the canals, you will recieve information about the names of the canals, how they were made and what are the most important sights to see in Amsterdam. They regular boat ride takes about an hour and costs aprox. 12 Euros.

While in Amsterdam, riding a bicycle is a must. The bicycles can be rented at your hotel or any bicycle rentals. But be careful, as the regular bicycle riders in the city are pretty fast and sometimes a bit aggresive.

Visit the flower market or walk the street along the shopping area. There are always tons of restaurants, bars and sweet shops where you can get more or less healthy food. Try the waffel shop. It’s worth the sin! Here are some images. Click on the image to make it larger!

Where to eat

One of the most delicious japanese food I have ever had was in Izakaya restaurant. A fantastic restaurant situated in the sir Albert hotel.

What to see

Rijks museum is a great museum where you can find some of the most incredible paintings like the famouse Remrandts ‘The Nightwatch’. Van Gogh museum has the largest collection of the artists paintings. You have to book the Van Gogh museum in advanced (at least three days in high season) in order to get a time slot.

Visit the science museum with the greatest view from its roof top where you can see some of the modern architectures around the great canal as well as some old buildings and ships around it. The visit of the roof top is for free, so if you are not that much into science, you do not have to pay a fee and go inside the building.

And last but not least just walk on the streets in the center of the town where you can find a little bit of the magic in every corner of this great city. Enjoy!

The shoe thing

Don’t forget to pack some red shoes in your luggage when you’re going to Amsterdam. A red sneaker is always an eye catcher. And be sure to take some high heels with you if you are going to visit a club or a nice restaurant like Izakaya. If you prefer black then simply take the ones with the red soles!
