Lahami bay beach resort (Egypt)

Lahami bay beach resort is located right on the shore of the Red Sea and owns the most beautiful reef in Egypt. With its three kilometers, the Lahami bay reef is the absolute dream of any snorkeling and scuba diving fan. A must see!

How is the area

Lahami bay beach resort is the most southern resort in Egypt. The shortest way to get to the resort would be to fly to Marsa alam and take a taxi from Marsa alam to the resort. It takes approximately 2 hours to get there by car. I highly recommend reserving a taxi online in advanced.

Where to stay

Lahami Bay beach resort rooms are some of the largest resort rooms on the Red Sea. The 220 rooms are grouped in two-floor buildings and surrounded by beautiful gardens. Every room has sea view either partially or completely. I was lucky enough to catch the best room with a great balcony facing the north beach. That room is as good as it gets if you are a snorkeler or scuba diver because the entrance to the reef is at the north beach.

What to do

Even though the Lahami bay beach resort is the only resort at that area and there are not much to see around it, one can never get bored there. There are so many activities to choose from: snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, kite surfing, wind surfing, sup, canu, volleyball, boccia and many other types of sports can be practiced or even learned at the Lahami bay beach resort. There is also a fitness room available with various equipment in there.

There are three beaches to choose from. At the north beach there are mostly scuba divers and snorkelers either spending time exploring the reef or enjoying the sun at the beach. At the central beach, there are mainly people who just want to relax and sunbath. The south shore is where you can find the kite surfers, the wind surfers and all the other watersport activities. Several pools are found inside the property.

If one feels more like relaxing, there is a great spa which offers a wide range of different massages. I took the package for a very reasonable price with 5 different massages over 5 days and it was absolutely fantastic. There is also a beauty salon where the ladies can enjoy different beauty treatments.

Where to eat

There are three restaurants inside the resort. The main restaurant is called the Seven Seas. This is where the breakfast and half board dinner are served as a buffet. At the Asia restaurant a selection of far-eastern dishes is served in a traditional Asian atmosphere. The third restaurant is an Italian pizza restaurant. Casual dining by the sea can be enjoyed at the Sail Away bar and the Mangroves CafΓ©, directly on the waterfront.

What to see

The house reef at the Lahami Bay is absolutely breathtaking! Starting less than a hundred meters from the beach, countless coral barriers, patches and pillars at depths from 15 to 60 meters extend into the sea in kilometer long formations. I have been to Maldives a couple of times and unfortunately I must say that the corals bleaching is getting worst every year there. I was so surprised to see that the corals at the Lahami bay are still in a pretty good shape and more colorful than the ones in the Maldives.

The Diving Centre is inside the hotel and on the north beach and is operated by trained and highly certified staff. The unique house reef system offers unlimited possibilities for daytime, early morning and night diving, directly from the beach, or by designated small house reef boats.

Good to know

If you are a snorkeler or scuba diver I recommend you ask for a room at the north shore with the numbers starting with 1000.
If you have never seen a dugong, there is a spot close to the northern entrance of the big reef and if you go early enough in the morning, you might be able to see one.
In the evening, a visit to the bedouin tent which is located at the central beach gives the opportunity to enjoy the sea breeze in a unique Egyptian setting.

The shoe thing

Flipflops are absolutely right during the day while staying at the Lahami bay beach. In the evening you don’t really have to dress up. A nice pair of sandals will tune up any outfit!
