The Residence Maldives is a very charming resort in Maldives with excellent staff und beautiful landscape you can explore by your bicycle!

How is the area

The beaches in the Residence Maldives are beautiful anywhere you go but the water on the sunrise side is not good for swimming or snorkeling (it is not deep enough). The sunset side is where you find the actual reef. It is a long swim to get to the reef. If you are in a water villa on the sunset side you can get to the reef simply by getting into the water in front of you villa and swimming like 50 meters. If you are starting from the dive center, it is about 100 meters to get to the edge of the reef. So it is not an easy enterence. And there is no life guard! The reef is beautiful, but of course like everywere else in Maldives, you see the coral bleeching and even though I’ve seen it again and again, it still hurts. I saw tonns of fisches (new ones too), spotted eagle rays, sting rays, Turtles (4 of them), Lobster, Octopus, etc. Unfortunately also some Jelly fishes and once i swam through sea lices and got stung.

Where to stay

I stayed in the two bed room beach villa nr. 218 on the sunrise side. I recommand this Villa, if you are 4 or more people who would like to be on the beach  and have more privacy. It’s the last one in the row and close to the spa :-). It was very clean and very well maintained twice a day.

What to eat

The restaurants are both very good. At the main restaurant ‘the dining room’ you can have buffet or order ala card. If you are on HB basis, the breakfast and dinner (both served in the dining room) is included. The restaurant Fallhuma is fancier and is like a gourmet restaurant but you can also eat there if you are on half board. You will get a credit of 73 $ and you will have to pay the rest. Good to know

The staff was very very nice and friendly. Hospitality is beyond measures on this island. They did everything to make us feel home and went to the length to satisfy our needs. I have been to couple of other islands but this one is the best, when it comes to the hospitailty and being friendly. What I love about this island is the fact that you recieve a bicycle upon arrival and you can have great and very enjoyable rides on you bicycle while you are going from a to b. simply fantastic!

There is also a very nice spa with complementary yoga classes every morning (sunrise) and every evening (sunset) and a great fitness room.

The only down point for me was the long journey. After you get to Male, you will have to wait (in our case 2,5 hours) for the next domestic flight of 55 min. to get to Koodoo Airport and from there another 10 min. by boat to get to the residence. Other than that, it was a fantastic stay at the residence Maldives.
